HDPE butt-fusion field checklist
Twelve items every crew should confirm before joining PE100 dredge pipe in the field.
Before the machine is switched on
Match SDR and resin grade on both ends, clean and dry the pipe, shield the joint from wind and rain, and confirm the clamps hold both ends coaxially.
During fusion
Follow the heater plate temperature, bead-up, soak and cooling times exactly. Never shorten the cooling stage — most field failures start there.
After fusion
Inspect the double bead for symmetry, record joint number, operator and parameters, and keep the log with the as-built pipeline drawing.
